the desire to convey a message, a feeling, something… the desire that is so much greater than you, that all you can do is surrender to it and pray that you are guided to deliver it appropriately.
one of the spaces that I believe artists are created out of.
There are some artists that speak more with their hands.
A concept develops in our minds and we manifest it with our hands
We create our lives with what we do, our actions.
And their is a point between the developed concept ( our mind) before it reaches to our actions (physical)
This is the intent.
A really great artist that I deeply respect and admire once said, that sincerity is one of the key element in being a great artist.
I agree entirely, and I call this space of sincerity, the touch.
What you produce with your hands, whether you are a sculptor, pianist, violinist, musician, painter, makeup artist, craftsmen..more than what is physically made, it is the genuine intent and humility that is felt by your approach, the touch that creates the product.
it is the great desire that forces you to surrender to it, before the touch.
In looking at the physical product, we can look into the artist’s sincerity by their touch that produces the shape and smoothness of the sculptor, the brush strokes, the dynamic of sounds heard by the instruments
I, myself, as a painter, consider most of my work in my mind before I approach the canvas. There is art to my study, research, and the process of going beyond my own boundaries and digging deep within myself.
And the shapes, colors, the strokes, are really prayers.
one of the artists that embodies and has an amazing touch is, Jazz pianist Ahamad Jamal
The moment he touches the piano, brings peace and emotions that overwhelms me each time.
In his touch, you can sense the rhythm and movement of his spirit, the humility of his heart, the language of his story.
A great Artist.
I pray for all artist to develop, build and be able to connect with just a touch.
